Get Your Vote On
In the spirit of punditry.ca having morphed into somewhat of an “everything about campus politics” blog, we interrupt this regularly scheduled programming for a Dalhousie public service announcement:
The NSPIRG Board Elections are happening *today* and *tomorrow* from 10:00pm-4:00pm. All Dalhousie students who did not opt-out of their NSPIRG fees are able to vote.
Go *here* to check out the bios of people who are running.
Assuming the “Upcoming Events” section of the NSPIRG website has the most up to date information, there will be polling stations at the Killam atrium and the B-Building Student Lounge on Sexton campus. No word on whether or not Carlton campus ever did win their battle to have easy access to their franchise. I know NSPIRG CRO Jane Kirby reads this blog from time to time, so maybe she can let us know if there have been any changes. I assume you’ll have to have your Dalcard to vote, but I’m just speculating on that one.
Happy Voting!
What exactly do these polling stations look like? I was in the atrium several times today between 10am and 4pm; granted, I wasn’t *looking* for a polling station, but I did not see one, either, nor did I see people looking like they were voting or anything like that. I’ll keep an eye out tomorrow, anyway.
It’s actually just two people sitting by a laptop, with a box beside them to put ballots in. So they don’t exactly stand out from the crowd. They were on the right as you came in the main entrance.
I guess I will look for a person with a box tomorrow.
Back in the day, NSPIRG was offered free use of the same voting software used at Dal, SMU, St Fx and others. The goal was to make NSPIRG elections more accessible to the 15,000 students who financially support them. This was back in the day when I personally still had hope for them.
They declined.
I plan on going to vote tomorrow….Unfortunately, I am extremely uninformed. Oh well.
I work within the DSU and this is the first I am hearing of this…Hmmmm
I voted today
Weee.
@Mike Smit
What if they were wanting to use it now? Would you still offer it to them for a relatively low price?
If so, I will talk to General Yates; I think he is going to win the Board Election.
I voted. Yay democracy.
I also voted! There were a couple of NSPIRG posters hanging from the table with a box and a laptop. I doubt I would have known what it was had I not been looking, but at least they were making an effort.
That’s two more posters than were on campus for the last DSU AGM. Either way, poor advertisement on both counts.
@G.C.
Actually, every Dal student got an email 48 hours prior to the meeting. That’s an awful lot better than a couple of posters, and saves paper.
@G.C.
@John Doucette
I agree with John here. Plus, posters just end up getting ripped down.
