Fostering A Culture of Resistance, One Carnival Event At A Time
March 18th, 2009
I’ll post my recap of the Presidential Debate later this afternoon, I promise. There’s still one more day of voting left, and I really can’t resist the urge to ask Debo what the heck was with the 5 (non-reusable) cups of tea/coffee.
In other news, for those of you who don’t incessently troll the comments like I do, SMAC is having an information shin-dig outside the Killam library TODAY at 4:00pm. I, for one, would not miss this for the world. The last time SMAC had a “public” organizing meeting, all accounts (I wasn’t there) were that the perceived “pro DSU” types found themselves not welcome. Let’s see if “fostering critical thought” works both ways for SMAC this afternoon…
Thanks for the update Jen!
I really don’t want to miss this ha; And as far as Debo’s cups, I truly was disappointed that he didn’t use a travel mug.
I’m sick of people ragging on Debo for not using reusable mugs. Did you see how much tea/coffee he was drinking? There was no time for him to go, wash his cup and get it filled up.
Also look at this picture: http://www.dalgazette.ca/?cmd=displaystory&story_id=2961&format=html
Do you see it? Sleeves rolled up, bent over the podium. If he were holding a reusable mug it would just look weird.
If at next debate, there’s a coffee machine on stage, then you can complain.
@Pacman
That’s the lamest excuse in the book. It’s also EVERYONE’s excuse for not using a travel mug (i.e. I don’t have time / I’m a lazy arse). If you’re drinking 5 cups of tea/coffee over the course of this debate, then you really don’t need to wash your cup in between each use.
In any case, if you’re going to make ridiculous excuses for the guy the least you coud do is point out that since it is Roll Up cup season, the use of a travel mug at Tim’s is moot if you still want the chance to win fabulous prizes.
Where is G.C.?
Just wondering why SMAC hands out NSPIRG pamphlets at their rallies…
NSPIRG was tabling at the event: this practice is common. Their materials are separate from ours, and their mandate is different. Just because Western Union tables at the International Culture festival, doesn’t mean they are the same thing.
We support NSPIRG’s fight to keep their funding, but again: we aren’t the same thing. We have very different decision-making structures, and although our memberships overlap, they are nowhere near identical.
Why don’t you ask them? If I’d went I’d have asked, not come back to pose the question to a bunch of people on a message board.
I abandon my reusable mug during roll up the rim season. I also feel no guilt about it.
